AI Discussions Major Theme of Upcoming HTCondor European Workshop

This year’s European HTCondor Workshop will bring together HTCondor users, administrators, and developers, for four days of conversation and interactive learning on AI and HTCondor, security, and monitoring, among other topics. European Condor Week 2026 will be held at the French National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3’s) Computing Center in Lyon, France, from Tuesday, 29th September to Friday, 2nd October.

This year, AI will be a major theme. Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC) researchers plan to share early lessons on letting AI assistants directly operate HTCondor systems, while a University of Chicago researcher will present a framework for letting AI agents safely tap into shared research computing infrastructure. Other sessions will dig into cybersecurity, including how CERN engineers balance patching vulnerabilities quickly without slowing down research, and new approaches to monitoring clusters at the level of individual jobs rather than whole machines. The workshop will also connect this infrastructure work back to scientific discovery, with a talk on improving techniques for detecting gravitational waves from colliding neutron stars.

Building on last year’s hands-on community events, the popular “Show your Toolbox” sessions, where participants can stand up and give lightning talks on their HTCondor usage, as well as office hours with the HTCondor developers, will also be running throughout the week this year.

Participation is open to all organisations (including companies) and persons interested in HTCondor. Whether an HTCondor user or administrator, users are encouraged to share their experiences with HTCondor, including projects, stories, and plans.
